Well, we made it through the first day at the MTC. We spent the day in orientation and meeting the other missionaries. As a group, we will be going all over the world doing a variety of things. It is interesting being a "senior" missionary. We learned that the MTC will provide feet lifters for sitting if your feet swell and you need your legs up. They will also provide cushions if it is too difficult to sit on the chairs for long periods of time. A break is built into our study sessions every hour. Seniors can also "cut" to the front of the line in the cafeteria. So, I guess there are some benefits to being old although I didn't really see them that way--it just made me feel old! I did realize the sacrifices that some have to make to serve--I'm just so grateful that we are still healthy.
We begin our training today. Lots of study from Preach My Gospel and role playing--you know how good I'll be at that! We also have the great opportunity tonight to hear from one of the Brethren.
The food is as I expected and there is no scheduled time for seniors to exercise so we have decided that we will have a protein drink and fruit for dinner and use the rest of the time to exercise.
This is a humbling time for me--I think that is by design. I miss you all, but am grateful for the experience. Be well and happy. I love you. Mom

Well I think you should take full advantage of the "senior benefits." Put your feet up, rest your bum, and by all means cut to the front of the line to get that delicious food!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Ross says to skip the chicken cordon bleu. A protein drink and fruit might just be the perfect dinner for you two. However - make sure you pamper yourselves as much as you can while you are studying and working and ROLE playing.
ReplyDeletePromise that you will go to the sisters wing and find look up Morgan/Hermana Palmer. Give her a hug, she has been requesting a "hug". A I am tears as I write this; that I can't give her one. Give her one for me. Morgan is scheduled to leave Oct. 15. One more week; I will give a hug to your Gracie for you.
ReplyDeleteSo exciting for you and Reed. I just found your blog thru Debbie Allen. I will continue to read your adventures for the next 3 years! Take Care!
ReplyDelete"Well, I would say I am now officially used to the MTC and all of its strange ways just in time for me to fly out on Thursday morning (3AM)! The MTC has become exponentially more fun since Brother and Sister Tollman arrived. I love looking for them and even just seeing them for brief moments. It is nice to feel loved by someone."_ (opening paragraph from Morgan's weekly letter this week)
ReplyDeleteMorgan's mom is so so happy you are there with her!!!!!! Thank you,and hang in there with the nylons. You would love Morgan's letter about flowers in hair vs modesty, at the MTC. Thanks for giving her a hug! Love Janell
